HIRING ESL TEACHERS – SPAIN 2005/06

Over the past four years, the DISCOVER English Academy has worked diligently to provide high quality ESL Education to students in Lucena, Cordoba. Given our program’s success and the academy’s growth from 75 students to well over 200 students, we are currently looking for dedicated, highly motivated teachers who are self-reliant, communicative, and reliable.

DISCOVER is an English Academy in the city of Lucena (Population: 45,000) which is in the province of Cordoba in Andalucia, Spain. Lucena is a lively, fast growing and dynamic town. Sevilla, Malaga and Cordoba are all within one hour by bus or train from Lucena, and Madrid can be reached in just two hours by AVE (the high speed train) from Cordoba.

As our academy does not advertise, we depend on our good reputation, results and word of mouth to spread the word about. In order to motivate our younger students we celebrate some holidays, such as Halloween and Easter, in the American tradition. In addition, we give out different awards every month, such as “Student of the Month” and “Best Classmate of the Month”. Our teachers must be willing to both teach and become an essential part of the academy by motivating students to do their best.

While most students at the academy are form the ages of 7 to 16, there are also classes for children from 4 to 7 years of age, as well as for adults. Discover has also established a Science Department, where we motivate students to learn about environmental studies, physics and mathematics.

The school year begins in October and ends in mid June. Classes take place between 4:00 PM and 9:30 PM, Monday through Friday. There are 3 weeks of paid holiday at Christmas, 10 days paid holiday at Easter, and five to six, three to four-day paid holidays through out the school year.

BASIC INFORMATION

SALARY: Starting at 1,200 Euros/ month ($1,600/ month)
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part time (25 contact hours)
REQUIREMENTS: Successful Applicants must have either a BA or MA in: Spanish, Linguistics, English of Bilingual Studies (ESL) and/or the TESOL or TEFL certificate; minimum 2 years of teaching experience and/or part-time teaching experience through internships, teaching assistantships and tutoring. Applicants must be NATIVE English speakers and fluent in Spanish or native Spanish speakers who are US. (with work permit) or European citizens fluent in both English and Spanish.
