Great Opportunity in China (easy access to Seoul)
Teach English & Learn Chinese!!
(and get free TEFL certification!)
America China Exchange Society
info@acescenter.com

The America China Exchange Society is your ticket to a GREAT experience.
Immediate vacancies are available for 1 year (or longer) teachers.

It's easy!

The America China Exchange Society (ACES) is running several English language programs in Tianjin and Shenzhen, and we will soon expand operations to Beijing and Shanghai. We are ALWAYS looking for enthusiastic recent college grads, teachers, professors, and other interested parties to come on board at different levels as ACES Teachers. If you're interested in spending time in China with a program that will provide both support and frequent opportunities for deep cultural exchange, you’d do well to contact us!

We prefer that our teachers have previous teaching experience and TEFL (or TESOL) certification, but this is not required. ACES provides training for all of its teachers, and those who are not yet certified will receive more intensive training that will culminate with TEFL certification. Note that ACES provides this training free for all of its teachers, along with free Chinese lessons (5 hours per week).

We want you to have time to experience China! ACES teachers need only work 25 hours per week in exchange for all expenses covered (airfare, housing w/ basic utilities, healthcare, Chinese lessons, food, pocket money, year-end bonus).

What do you need to do?

Complete the quick application form that you will find at www.ACEScenter.com . If you encounter problems with the online form (the Internet in China is a fickle beast!) then send an email expressing your interest and describing your qualifications to info@acescenter.com.

* We want to know why you're interested in China . . . and we want you to convince us that you're the type of high energy person who will get along with and even inspire your students (whether these are professionals, middle or high school students, university student, or even kindergarteners).

2) Those who are selected will go through an informal interview process.

* This gives us more information about you, but also offers you a chance to get info about China and ACES.
* We'll also let you know about immediate openings and get a sense of your strengths and preferences.

3) If you don't have one already, get a passport!

4) ACES will help teachers obtain visas and tickets, and ACES will fully reimburse teachers for the cost of tickets.

5) Get on the plane, and start having fun!

What will ACES provide in China?

In a word, EVERYTHING.

Chinese Lessons: Teachers will have the option of daily Chinese lessons (5 hours per week). These lessons will divide teachers by ability. ACES will also facilitate meetings with conversation partners for teachers who already have intermediate or advanced Chinese language skills.

TEFL Certification: Based on your successful completion of an intensive week-long orientation, continued training and your first three months of teaching experience, ACES will present you with a TEFL certification indicating your ability to teach conversational English. Note that other programs do not offer this benefit, or they charge teachers for initial training. ACES is able to combine your training and teaching because our ACES Centers offer strong support for new teachers that allows for classroom observation and critiques by more experienced teachers. A TEFL certification gives you real and lasting wheels for your future travel plans!!

Housing: Teachers are generally housed in private living quarters, usually 2 or 3 bedroom apartments with shared kitchen/living rooms. You will have your own bedroom. In some instances, we are able to arrange short-term home-stays to deepen your opportunities for cross-cultural interaction.

Cross-Cultural Experiences: ACES arranges local travel opportunities and outings for both teachers and students. You will be able to see the local sights and experience the local culture, not in the superficial way that you might as a tourist but as a real and valued member of the community. Teachers also have the advantage of daily interactions in the vibrant environment of an ACES Center. These centers are all-English environments in which teachers interact with their students both in- and outside of the classroom. Note that ACES is much more about encouraging interaction and constructing friendships than it is about formal class time. Both students and teachers are meant to build friendships and have fun!

Meals: ACES Teachers are provided with either a daily meal stipend or receive meals at their teaching location. Your teaching location will typically be an ACES Center, but you may have assignments elsewhere during your stay (for example, at a company that wants a short-term training program for its executives or at a local high school).

Pocket Money: In addition to covering all expenses, ACES provides teachers with $250 (2,150 RMB) per month to cover incidental expenses, souvenirs, entertainment, etc. Note that this is quite a bit of money by Chinese standards (mid-career professional level). Since all of your expenses will be covered by ACES, the pocket-money will be just that … you will be able to use it to go out, have fun, and do some exploring on your own or with your new friends. Note also that ACES has been able to assist many of its teachers in deferring student loans.

Career Opportunities: ACES is expanding rapidly across China. We have been able to offer ACES Teachers who perform well (and who are able to commit to longer stays) full-time salaried positions. These can entail administration of teachers and R&D management positions. ACES is also opening several non-profit centers in America and Canada to serve the English training needs of recent immigrants. The managers and directors that we place in the centers will be chosen from among our best-performing teachers. Note that “best-performing” entails a real commitment to our social mission of encouraging international exchange.

What is Required of Teachers?

Read the following requirements carefully before applying:

1) Native English speakers
-Mere fluency is not sufficient. You must also speak with a standard American, Canadian, British, or Australian accent.
2) Undergraduate degree or equivalent training
-Note that some exceptions may be possible for teachers who have had extensive experience, but these will be rare.
3) Readiness to make a 1 year commitment, minimum.
-There will be occasional opportunities for short term teachers (during winter and summer breaks), but our on-going need is for longer term teachers.

When's the Application Deadline?

There is no deadline. We accept applications on a rolling basis. However, as of this posting, WE HAVE IMMEDIATE OPENINGS FOR ABOUT 50 TEACHERS. If you apply now, your chances for immediate placement are quite high. If you delay, it may take us a month or more to place you.

To expedite the process you should send an email to info@acescenter.com or call 917.299.4949.

There are a lot of language training programs growing up in China. Among them, ACES stands out for its commitment to cross-cultural exchange. Convince us that you care about the possibilities of such exchange, that you will bring energy and ideas to our mission, and, chances are, we will be eager to welcome you to our family.

ACES: Friendship & Learning. Every Day.
