-More information about us-
PSA was founded in 1996 by YBM Si-sa (Korea's largest employer of ESL teachers) www.ybmedu.co.kr for preschoolers from 5 to 7 years-old in Korean age (4 to 6 years American). Since its formation, the program has experienced rapid growth. There are now three schools in Seoul each with an enrollment of 250 preschoolers and more than 60 elementary school students. PSA could accurately be described as a multi-subject English emersion Academy for pre-school and elementary children.
There are 13 homerooms in each school all consisting of 20 pre-school students, 1 native English speaking foreign teacher, 1 certified English speaking Korean teacher and 1 Korean assistant teacher. This environment creates a 1 to 7 teacher-to-student ratio. The two homeroom teachers are in charge of the same 20 students throughout the school year. They take turns teaching a monthly class theme such as ‘The Environment”, “Health”, “Our Community”, etc., as well as phonics, math, reading, and writing. The assistant teacher helps in preparation of class materials, provides snacks, and cares for students during bus travel as well as many other activities.
In addition to the homeroom teachers, there are special subject teachers who maintain their own classrooms. Special class subjects include Physical Education, Science, Art, Music, and Violin. PSA maintains a school system that is more like a kindergarten than a pre-school in the USA. There are various school events throughout the year that include Flea Markets, One Night Camp, Field Trips, Pet Week, Halloween, Manners Luncheon, and more. PSA is a very fun and enjoyable organization to be a part of and teachers usually enjoy working here.
