Because of the current market situation of high demand for native ESL teachers, employers tend to hire teachers with more attractive packages. There are tremendous tangible and intangible benefits for foreign English teachers, not to mention the recognition and respect to the teachers by the Korean society.

The salary level is competitive and substantial which is determined by qualifications and experience. After all, the disposable income after taxes will be around C$31,000 ( US20,000 )at least. Teachers are able to save a considerable portion, possibly C$10,000( US$6,500 ) to C$15,000 ( US$10,000 )on average.

The cost of living in Korea is considerably low compared to neighbouring countries like Japan and significantly cheaper
then that of America and Canada. Compared with that of Toronto, Los Angeles, the Korean living cost appears to be 30% to 40% cheaper.

It is a common practice that free accommodation in the form of apartment is provided to English teachers by employers. There is no initial outlay of money. Normally, a hosting partner provides teachers with an incoming airline ticket and a returning ticket upon
completing the contracted 1-year period successfully.

Income taxes on salary are extremely low it is ranged from 3% to 5%. Health insurance premium is born by the employer and employees equally. Accident compensation scheme covering 50 million Won will also provided.

Teachers are normally paid a paid vacation for 10 days at least, in addition to 9 or 10-paid public holidays.

Teachers are paid extra payment, normally 15,000 to 20,000 Won
(C$19.25-C$25.67 or US$12.40-US$16.53 ), the hourly rate for any overtime hours worked. Teachers will receive a special bonus, equivalent to one month's salary, called a severance pay, upon completing the contracted 12-month period.
