A private academy in the Korean beach resort of Sokcho will need a native English speaker in August 2005.

There are Korean teachers to teach the kids. The owner just wants you to play with the kids, keep them happy and coming back. It's purely a money-making venture: they collect it and share it with you, in full and on time.

Kids are Grades 2-8. There's a textbook if you want to use it. The owner really doesn't care what you use so long as the kids are happy. No lesson plans or prep time required. You can give tests or homework if you want to (the kids probably won't do it anyway): if not, no grading and no problem!

6 hours per day "teaching" M-F 2.30/3.30 to 9.00 p.m.. NEVER ANY WEEKENDS. Enjoy your mornings/early afternoons on weekdays then pop in at mid-afternoon (but you must be on time).

W2,000,000 per month plus free 1BR apartment furnished (a small condo charge applies - less than US$100 per month) with cable TV, washing machine, fridge and equipped kitchen. Visa and health insurance (50% premium) provided. You can also have a free Korean dinner with the Korean teachers (bowl of rice and pick at vegetables) when on duty if you help lay the table and serve the food.

I am the current teacher there. They follow the contract, pay on time and will always try to help. The Director speaks English well. I am only leaving because I want to really teach.

Sokcho is not a nightlife hotspot but attracts thousands of Korean and foreign visitors for its beautiful sandy beach, Seoraksan National Park (mountains and forest), and clean and green environment. Skiing areas are accessible in winter a few hours away by bus. This is a place for nature lovers and great for cyclists. However, there are supermarkets, a cinema, a decent local bus system and easy internet access.

Required: native speaker of English, B.A. degree or equivalent (must have original diploma and unopened transcript from degree granting University for Korean immigration), eligible for Korean E-2 visa. North Americans preferred. No experience required. Male or Female O.K..
