My name is Kristopher Kinch, and I started Asia-Pacific Connections, Ltd. in Vancouver in 2000. I'm a well-qualified English-language instructor and I've been teaching for fourteen years, two of which I spent in Korea. I've also taught in Taiwan and Canada. I've held Head Teacher and Director of Studies positions, and done a fair bit of specialized English teaching. I've taught students of all ages in venues ranging from private Korean kindergartens to the British Council. I encourage prospective teachers to “Google me.” I’ve worked hard to help teachers over the years and have an excellent reputation as a recruiter.APC is currently hiring for 20+ positions, mostly in the southern suburbs of Seoul, but also in the City of Seoul, and in other Korean cities. A few of these jobs are for NOW, but most are for late March, April, or May.
All the jobs require a 12-month commitment and a full-undergraduate degree (minimum). North Americans are strongly preferred. We cannot place non-native speakers of English (however good their English may be), nor can we place citizens of non-English speaking countries.
All the jobs involve teaching children. All of the jobs are M-F and require 25-30 hours of classroom teaching per week. All the jobs include the following:
- A salary of 1.9 - 2.4 million Won per month (usually 1.9-2.0 for inexperienced teachers -- about US$1,950 – US$2050).
Round trip air (ticket to Korea pre-paid)
- A Free apartment (most jobs offer a single studio apartment, a few offer housing shared with another Western teacher).
- Legal severance pay (one full month per year worked)
- Medical Insurance
- A Legal employment visa
- Refundable pension contributions (a 4.5% premium on salary).
- Advice and support before you leave and while you are in Korea.
- PRIVATE contact information for current teachers at any school that has agreed to hire you.
A few of the jobs I am currently trying to fill include:
- Three premium jobs in Bundang (southern suburb of Seoul).
One job is for NOW, two more are for late March. The salary range here is 2.1-2.3 million won per month and there is no kindergarten. The teaching duties are relatively light. As many of the students are preparing for university studies abroad, there is more emphasis on reading and writing here than is usual in Korea. Experience and/or ESL teaching qualifications are required. I’ve hired nine teachers for this employer and the feedback has been very positive. Single housing.
- Jobs for a couple or two friends in Bundang for April 20.
I’ve been hiring for this school since 2001 and have had nothing but positive feedback from teachers over the years. Several teachers have renewed their contracts and a couple of people I placed back in 2001 are still there! These jobs involve morning kindergarten and afternoon elementary and are open to new teachers. Salary 1.9 -2.0. Shared (with each other) housing.
- One job in Daegu. Female preferred.
This is the third year I’ll be hiring for this school. The owner is kind, generous and flexible. The first teacher I placed here renewed her contract. The school is small – two foreign teachers and three or four Korean teachers – and the teaching involves morning kindergarten and afternoon elementary. I’ve just hired a bright and dynamic young woman from California who will be starting in early March. A second teacher is needed for an arrival around March 15. This job is open to new teachers. Salary 1.9-2.0. Single housing.
- Two jobs in Suwon – Non-North Americans welcome. These jobs are for NOW.
I’ve been hiring for this school since 2003. They offer 2.0 million and new teachers are welcome. The apartments here are excellent – very modern. The teaching is morning kindergarten with afternoon elementary. The employer is kind and reliable. Single housing.
If none of these appeals, please apply anyway. I have access to literally dozens of jobs (City of Seoul and Seoul area) through my Korean partner, with whom I’ve been working closely for the past three years. Our placements together have had very good results and I have already successfully placed people with her in most of the schools she recommends. We regularly place teachers in Korean public schools and have premium jobs at several POLY branches.
