Qiqihar Vocational College is located in the downtown area of the city of Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province, which is China's most north eastern province. The city is the second largest city in the province with a 5.5 million population. It is modern with a 300 year built history and has all the facilities of a major city. There are some interesting local sights, such as tree filled Longsha Nature Park on the Labour Lake where ice sculpture and architecture are made every winter, Nenjiang River for boating, swimming and fishing recreation in summer, and Zhalong Crane Reserve, where the rare red capped crane is found. These places attract a lot of tourists from home and broad.
Average temperatures range from C10 Celsius below zero in mid winter to 30 Celsius in summer. The college shares easy transportation and the city is on the train route to Beijing through the provincial capital of Harbin just two and a half hours away. Harbin can be visited on days off. Qiqihar is the regional center of economy, education, commerce and culture.
Qiqihar Vocational College was founded in 1958. It is one of the best colleges of the same kind in Heilongjiang Province. It has seven departments: Computer Science Department, Foreign Languages Department, Machinery and Electronics Department, Law Department, Architecture Department, Economy Management Department and Art Design Department. Its seven departments offer 16 different specialties for students to choose from. There are 220 teaching staff, 109 of who are professors and associate professors. It enrolls students nationwide. There are 3000 full-time students in the college. It confers a 3-year college diploma to its graduates. Most of the students also obtain other vocation and skill certificates conferred by international institutions such as UCLES (University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate) and Chinese governmental departments through tests. Our graduates are welcomed by the employers.
Qiqihar Vocational College also has one primary school, one high school, one technical and vocational school affiliated. The students of these schools age from 7-18. College students age from 18-21. Native English teachers can be assigned work at a mix of these schools according to their experience and own interest. All teachers are asked to teach at special English Training Classes .

QUALIFICATIONS

At high school level and primary school level, we require a bachelor's degree with TESL/TEFL training.
Experienced teachers in TEFL/TESL field are preferred. We are looking for team workers with pleasant personalities who are willing to share their teaching experiences with other teachers .
BENEFIT PACKAGES
SALARY:
Salary will be set between 3500 and 4000 RMB depending on the teachers'qualifications and experiences. RMB is the same unit of currency as the internationally known Yuan, and its value usually hovers around 8 RMB per US$. This salary is higher than Chinese English teachers earn, who do the similar jobs. The average salary of local English teachers is 1000 RMB. It is sufficient for a person to live comfortably on and save for travel, especially within China.
ACCOMMODATION:
Accommodation in the form a boiler heated bed-sitting room with windows, private shower and toilet attached is provided rent free with modern furniture in good condition (a wardrobe, a bookshelf, bed and bedding, a desk, TV table and TV, a small coffee table with two chairs and a stool). A shared kitchen equipped with a two burner cooktop, cupboards, sterilizer and refrigerator is also provided. A washing machine is also in the kitchen area. Couples are offered a small flat or apartment comprising a bedroom, sitting room, kitchen (equipped as above) and a bathroom/toilet.
TRAVEL EXPENSES:
For one year contract teachers:
For each teacher, one economy class return airfare will be reimbursed at the completion of the contract period. There is a limit of US$1000 to this offer, and the flight should be by the most direct route possible between the teacher's hometown and Beijing Capital Airport or the nearest international airport to Qiqihar. Harbin also has an international airport linking to some countries. A one-way train ticket from Beijing to Qiqihar is included.
For half year contract teachers : We provide one way airfare which is up to 500 USD.
For three month contract teachers : No reimbursement of any transportations.

The teachers are entitled to 3 weeks paid holidays including Spring Festival , National Day and May Day.
FREE MEDICAL CARE
The teachers are provided with free medical care up to 1000 RMB a year. Impairments on application are excluded. 500 RMB for half year contract teachers.
FREE MANDARIN LESSONS
Free mandarin lessons of 2 academic hours each week will be provided in the evenings or on public holidays
Contract Bonus :
We provide 2200 RMB contract bonus for one year contract teacher and 1100 RMB for half year contract teacher as travel allowance.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The following is the descriptions of the jobs for the teachers on one-year contracts and the jobs for the teachers on half-a-year and three-month contracts are nearly the same as the ones for one-year contracts.
All the teachers will live in Qiqihar Vocational College Expatriate Teachers'Accommodation on campus and work under the leadership of the Head of Foreign Languages Department of the college. The department runs part-time English training classes which help children, middle school students and adults improve their conversational and listening abilities. Native English teachers work in their own spacious office, making lesson preparations, exchanging teaching experiences. and developing and using a small resource library of games and texts
At college level the teachers will teach conversational English to the college students .
At junior /Senior high school level, the teachers will teach Conversational English. At primary school level the teachers will teach children to learn English.
For all the teachers, the teaching load will be 20 academic hours a week, at least 8 of which will be spent teaching our English Training Classes at weekends and in the evenings. The rest of which will be spent teaching ordinary lessons at high school, or primary school. The teachers may be required to have informal conversation with students or teachers at English Corner. The maximum teaching load is 20 academic hours. During the winter and summer, the teachers are required to teach in our winter and summer programs.
