Location And Area
Karamay, a city directly under the jurisdiction of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, located on the northwestern fringe of the Junggar Basin and at the eastern foot of the Jiayir Mountains, rises 922 meters above sea level and covers an area of 10082.7 square kilometers. It is 400 kilometers from Urumqi.

History
Xinjiang is a vast territory rich in oil and natural gas reserves.
Karamay, which means "black oil "in Uygur, is named after the natural asphalt hill near the city-Black Oil Hill. Karamay City was officially set up on May 29, 1958 with the approval of the State Council, now, after more than thirty years of construction, it has become a modern integrated oil complex, a "petroleum city".

Population And Nationalities
The city has a population of 300000, of which 76.98 percent is Han.
Administrative Divisions
The city has under its administration four districts(Dushanzi, Karamay, baijiantan, and Urho), nine towns, two townships, twenty-eight neighborhood committees and eighty-five residential areas. Within the boundaries of the city there are four farms belonging to the Production and Construction Corps.
The Petroleum Administrative Bureau of Xinjiang Autonomous Region is located in Karamay. The bureau and the city are separately managed, but come under the same Party leadership.

Climate And Natural Resources
The city is dominated by a typical dry continental climate. It is windy in spring and autumn, hot in summer and cold in winter. The annual mean temperature is while the coldest month of January averages and the hottest month, July, averages 28(the highest temperature ever recorded was .

Economy
The petroleum industry is Karamay's mainstay, with an annual oil production of more than five million tons. In addition, there are some light industrial enterprises such as a small flour mill, foods processing factories and wooden furniture mills.

Science, Education, Culture And Public Health
The city has five scientific research institutes, four institutions of higher learning, four specialized secondary schools, three technical schools, thirty-four secondary schools and forty-six elementary schools.
The city has thirty-one medical organizations, one of which is a hospital for traditional Chinese medicine, and there are more than 900 hospital beds and 1600 medical personnel.
The city has its own newspapers, radio and television broadcasting stations, more than eighty film projection theater troupe and six parks and memorials. The city has built five sanatoriums in Xinjiang and other parts of the country and also chartered beds in nineteen sanatoriums all over the counry.

Scenic Spots And Places Of Historical Interest

Black Oil Hill Park
Located at the southern foot of Black Oil Hill in the eastern suburbs of Karamay, the park occupies an area of 130000 square meters. Construction of the park was started in the early summer of 1983 and after a little more than one year the park was completed and opened to the public. The park's main attraction is Tuohu Lake, which covers an area of 196000 square meters. There are two islets in the lake, one called Solitary Islet and the other Foot Islet. On Solitary Islet, there is a little pavilion with three rare pine fossils standing beside it. On Foot Islet, which takes its name from its shape, there are pavilions on the water, rockeries, flower beds, lawns and tea rooms where visitors can rest. There is an arched bridge on the north side of Foot Islet, and a zigzag bridge on the east side which joins it to the mainland. Besides the arched bridge there is a rockery ten meters high, and elsewhere in the park many other artistic architectural structures dot the landscape, such as Long Rest Corridor, Triangular Pavilion and Mushroom Pavilion. There is also an electronic recreation center, an art gallery, the Golden Fish and Potted Landscape Exhibition Hall, a roller-skating rink, a swimming pool and a restaurant.

Windy City
Windy city, three kilometers southeast of the Urho District of Karamay and also called the "Devil's City" by the local people, is ten square kilometers in area and rises 350 meters above sea level.
According to a preliminary investigation, during the Cretaceous Period about one hundred million years ago the place was covered by a vast fresh-water lake surrounded by luxuriant plants. It was a paradise for the Urho Stegosaurus, the Plesiosaurus, the Junggar Pterosaur and other dinosaurs which lived and multiplied turned into a big desert interspersed with sandstone and slate, now geologically known as the "Gobi table".

There are openings for EFL conductors with EF Karamay English Training Center in Karamay, China. Our school is a private English school in Karamay city. Our school offers young learners, beginner, intermediate and advanced integrated skills courses and business courses.
Our school uses a fully developed curriculum with textbooks, video and cassette materials and supplementary resources. We are providing the following compensation for the service:
Full-time EFL Teachers
1. Work Visa and resident's permit
2. Round trip air- fare (after completion of one year of service).
3. A guaranteed minimum salary of5,500 yuan ( about 665US) a month for 24 teaching hours' work per week.
4. 80yuan (about 10 US) for any additional academic hour.
5. Rent paid apartment in a comfortable apartment complex or accommodation allowance.
6. ERIKA insurance
7. 10 days of annual leave in addition to 11 days public holidays.
