EF English First has its own textbook series for general English classes but encourages teachers to make full use of the extensive library of EFL resource books, found in our school, in order to make lessons as student-centered and proactive as possible. We also have a state of the art language lab to compliment lesson plans. Class sizes never exceed 20 students per class, we prefer to keep classes to a 15-student average.
Further information:
Our school is managed my self, an English native and the Center Manager, a Chinese businessman. As DoS I am proactive in providing a support network for teachers in all aspects of their work. In addition, our head office in Shanghai is also run by western staff and supports all
teachers’ needs.
Presently we have 8 native English-speaking teachers from U.S, U.K and Australia. We also employ Chinese English teachers on a part time basis. I must say our present team is quite good fun and sociable. We are presently looking to recruit 6 new full time teachers due to opening a new school and growing clientele.
The school organsises teacher’s work permits on arrival. Teachers are asked to organise a tourist visa (L visa) before leaving UK, the cost of the visa is reimbursed. On arrival the school will convert the tourist visa into a work visa and will organise the work permit. The school covers all expenses.
On arrival teachers will be met at the airport by my self and taken to their apartment or to a hotel until an apartment is located. They will be gradually introduced into the school and will not be expected to start teaching full time for the first week.
The franchise owner is currently opening a new school in Wuhan's Wuchan region; he also plans to open a third school towards the end of 2004. Such development will create further opportunities for academic development of teachers who are looking to move forward in EFL.
English First is a world leader of language learning and we currently have over 100 schools world wide - 53 in China alone.
I hope this has been helpful and offered a clear insight.
