Director of Studies / 1st September / 3 yrs exp. plus a degree.
I am presently looking for a potential candidate to take over my position as Director of Studies in a private language school as from 1st September. You will be required to start on the 20th August 2004 for a week on the job training.

The school is a franchised private language school from English First that caters for young learners through to adult / academic courses with approximately 600 students. The position requires an experienced educator with a degree and 3 years teaching experience. Equally I am looking for an excellent communicator with a positive attitude and strong leadership skills.

Director of Studies Job Description


The DOS reports to the Centre Manager (CM) and consults with the Regional Academic Operations Manager (AOM).

Working hours and locations

The DOS works for 40 hours per week, distributed in agreement with the CM, including between 6 – 18 academic (one academic hour is equal to 40 minutes) classroom hours per week dependent on the centres needs and discussions with the Centre Manager.

The DOS will be required to work 5 days per week during the non-peak season and 6 days per week during the peak seasons. Management duties may occasionally require hours above 40 per week.

Main Responsibilities

Training, staff development and management

·Train and induct teachers in operational
procedures and EF English First company products
·Regularly observe teachers, according to EF
English First guidelines
·Regularly evaluate academic staff, establishing
clear goals and priorities for improvement and
development according to EF English First
guidelines
·Lead and/or arrange seminars and workshops in
teacher development
·Organize and lead regular staff meetings and
effectively communicate management decisions to
teachers
·Recruit teachers, according to EF English First
guidelines, in agreement with the CM
·Discipline and dismiss teachers according to EF
English First guidelines and in agreement with
the CM
·Provide training to the sales team regarding
the academic product and any updates or changes
·Work with the CM and teachers’ to constantly
improve the academic quality of the centre
·Deal with staff (teacher, CM and sales)
concerns promptly and effectively,
communicating needs to other
managers/departments as necessary

Scheduling and teacher utility
·Plan and organize your own and teachers’ time
efficiently and in the best interests of the
centre
·Consult with the CM and sales staff to ensure
effective timetabling
·Maximise teacher utility in the best interests
of the centre

Centre development and operation

·Coordinate the placement testing of students’
in cooperation with the sales team, according
to EF English First guidelines
·Develop course/supplementary materials based on
customer needs and in cooperation with the
Regional support office
·oversee the work, development and behaviour of
students within the center
·Organize and participate in promotional
activities as required by the CM

Professional development
·Teach professional courses based on customer
needs
·Provide lessons to the highest standards using
a variety of motivating techniques
·Maintain awareness of new theories and
methodology
·Always seek to develop and update skills
·Participate in all seminars offered by the
Regional Support Office
·Attend annual DOS training at the Regional
Support Office
