Jining Teachers College in Inner Mongolia is looking for up to 4 foreign teachers to start in February/March 2005 to assist in its teaching of English to students, most of whom will become middle school English teachers in the future. Jining is a small city, with a population of around 200,000. It lies an 8 hour train journey north-west of Beijing, 2 hours east of Inner Mongolia's capital, Huhehaote, and also has direct train links with Xi'an (20 hours) and Shanghai (27 hours). Life in Jining allows you to experience 'real' China, crystal blue skies and no pollution, away from the bigger westernised cities.

Jining TC is a college catering for students generally between the ages of 18 and 22. The foreign teachers would be expected to teach courses to English majors including oral English, writing, British and American culture, and methodology (depending on previous teaching experience) for approximately 20 hours per week. They would also be expected to assist with English Corner, a club that encourages the students to practise their oral English. Textbooks would be provided for the teacher to use although the content of the lessons is fairly flexible and left up to the foreign teacher in question.

Holidays are long, allowing plenty of time to travel extensively. The college is not far from the famed grasslands of Inner Mongolia and it is possible to experience Mongolian food at many small restaurants in Jining. The cost of living in this small city is low. A meal for 2 people in a small restaurant generally costs around 15 RMB!

Candidates should be TEFL qualified and from an English-speaking country (UK, USA, Canada, Australia). They should also have at least 1 year's teaching experience. The minimum contract is for one year and the teacher(s) should be aged between 22 and 45. Couples are preferred.

Salary will be 3000-4000 RMB per calendar month (depending on experience). Benefits include approximately 3 months of paid holiday each year (in line with college holidays), 1 way flight paid at completion of 1 year's contract and a furnished apartment provided free of charge including bedroom, bathroom (with washing machine and Western-style toilet), kitchen, living room (TV, PC with unlimited monthly internet access). The college will also provide medical cover.
