A Brief Introduction of Sanming University

Sanming University was established by combining Sanming Teachers College, Sanming Vocational University, Sanming Normal School, and Sanming Teachers Training Institute in 1999. It was authorized to be a full-time undergraduate University by the National Ministry of Education on May 18, 2004. Presently, Sanming University is made up of 13 departments: Chinese Department, Department of Politics & Law, English Department, Department of Mathematics, Department of Chemical & Biology Engineering, Department of Physics, Department of Computer Science, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Economics, Art Department, Department of Physical Education, Department of Elementary Education, and Public Basic Courses Session.

Its campus covers an area of 1012 mu with total floor space of 171,000 square meters. There is a collection of 630,000 volumes and a searching center of China Academic Journals (caj & CNKI) at the University library. The University owns many experiment centers, 2 ground track fields, and 2 swimming pools, besides other teaching facilities. The University offers courses for 40 undergraduate and academy majors. There are over 6,500 students enrolled at all levels on campus by the beginning of the new academic year. It has a teaching and administrative staff of 600, including 140 teachers with senior titles, 113 teachers with the doctor or master’s degrees. 5 academicians of Chinese Academy of Science or Chinese Academy of Engineering are invited as visiting professors.
Our University is located in the city of Sanming, a forest city with delightful sceneries in the central part of Fujian Province.

We are looking for foreign teachers who will give
1. English native speakers
2. give English, speaking and listening lessons; give English and American literature and writing;
3 teach about 14 -- 18 hours per week;

4 stay for at least one term; (Spring term is from February to July and Autumn term is from September to February) :
5 Bachelor or Master Degree/Diploma.

The salary treatment
1.Direct payment
Monetary salary RMB 3500-5000 thousand RMB /month. The salary will be paid monthly with RMB from the day of starting work to the expiration of the contract. Free accommodation and paid winter vacation. Paid two (2) months summer vacation (July and August) if a new contract is signed for the employment term of another academic year, or one (1) month summer vacation if such a new contract is not signed.
2. Indirect payment
The employing party will guarantee the fundamental living conditions for the employed party in China:
1) Providing lodging with kitchen, furniture, bedding, telephone (phone call fees covered by the employed party), television, refrigerator, toilet, heating and cooling facilities, ect (these fees shall be covered by the University, not including phone call fees).
2) A medical care insurance policy according to the state relevant regulations, and RMB one thousand Yuan (￥1000) per year contracted medical expenditures for expenses not covered by the insurance policy. Other medical expenses beyond the contracted medical expenditures shall be covered by the employed party.
3) Providing transportation to and from work.
4) Return international air ticket (international economy class air ticket for the nearest distance between China and the country of the employed party), and ￥2200RMB for travel allowance.

Work Time, Rest and Holidays

1. The party employed is entitled to the following holidays and festivals in China:
New Year's Day, Spring Festival, May Day, National Day and other holidays stipulated by laws and regulations.
2. The party employed is entitled to the following festivals and holidays corresponding to their nationalities and religions:
Two days for Christmas, three days for Corban, one day for Lesser Bairam and one day for Water-splashing Festival.

Ⅳ. Sick leave and private affairs leave
1. Certificate from doctors for foreigners appointed by the host institution should be presented when the employed party asks for sick leave. If the sick leaves amount to less than 30 days within one contract term (one year or one academic year), the party employed shall be paid with 100% of the salary. In case the leaves exceed 30 days, the host institution has the right to terminate the contract, or, if the contract is not terminated, the 70% of the salary will be paid until the normal work is resumed.
2. Private affairs leave of the employed party shall be approved by the host institution. The host institution will deduct the salary by day. In the contract term (one year or one academic year), the private affairs leaves should not exceed 10 days. The continuous private affairs leave shall be no more than 3 days, and two days' salary will be deducted for each day thereafter.
In case of absence from work without the host institution's permission, 3 days' salary will be deducted for each day absent. For serious circumstances, the host institution has the right to terminate the contract and investigate the liability of the employed party for violation of the contract.
