Zesty English Teachers Needed - CHINA
Zesty: French Native / Japanese Native / English Native Teachers Needed for work in an Australian owned and run language school in the NE of China.

Positions available from April, June, July and Sept for native speakers from Australia, England, Japan and France, who wish to join our young Zesty English Teaching Team! We are looking for ESL teachers (and Japanese teachers and French teachers) who are professional, committed to their students and who have a sense of adventure – to cope with living & working in a culture so vastly different from our own.

Basic requirements:
(1) native speaker of English from either England or Australia OR
(1A) native speaker of French OR
(1B) native speaker of Japanese
(2) first degree and some teaching experience or a teaching certificate
(3) 23yo and above
(4) have a sense of humour
(5) and as four is an unlucky number in China we have to add a fifth…

The language school is owned and run by a small Australian Company who is intent on making a splash in both the education and foreign employment scenes in the NE of China (Dandong, Liaoning Province). Our mantra is to have fun whilst immersing ourselves in the Chinese culture, and immersing our students in a fun environment in which to learn English.

We have 6 teacher vacancies in 2005 for these dates:
· April – Sept
· April – Dec
· June – Sept
· June – Feb 2006
· July – Feb 2006
· Sept – Apr 2006

We provide shared furnished accommodation (furniture, fridge, TV, water-cooler-dispenser-thingy, linen, towel and bedding, DVD player, microwave, oven, all kitchen gear, heating for winter, washing machine & visiting cleaning lady! Everything you need for your apartment is already provided at no cost to the teacher) within walking distance of the school. The school also contributes Y100 per month towards your household bills. We provide teacher training at no cost to teachers, and all paperwork/Z Visa upgrades necessary for legally living and working in China, as well as Chinese lessons 5 days per week if teachers are interested in learning Mandarin. As far as Chinese culture is concerned its up to you what youd like to learn or become part of which is one of the great advantages of our area and school – if you want to learn how to paint or write Chinese calligraphy we will show you where, if you want to learn Chinese cooking, kung-fu or tai-chi we will show you where, and if you want to brush up on those karaoke skills then we will happily direct you there.

Teachers can work part-time or full time. If you are interested in one of the dates mentioned above, and meet the requirements listed then please email an application and clearly state which time frame you would like to be considered for and whether you would like full time or part time work. And sorry, only teachers considered for a position will receive a reply.
Salaries (payable in either RMB or into an overseas bank account) of between Y4,000-Y6,000 per month for 18-25 hours of teaching per week depending on length of contract, experience, and hours worked. Plus up to four weeks vacation per year offered. Contracts available for the dates listed above to meet our semester and holiday-period work needs. To give you a guideline, living costs for a month (if you ate out every day and went out a few nights a week) in our area are Y1,400. The average local salary if you use Government Statistics is Y900, and if speak to your friends its more like Y700!

Also you have a great support network both on and off campus, in the local and western staff at the school, as well as the Australian Principal, all of whom are wanting to share their love of China with you to make your stay as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible. As corny as it sounds, happy people make great teachers and co-workers!

So, what do we ask of you???
Pretty simple really – great classes. We need enthusiastic candidates who are EASYGOING and can adapt to different classes and students needs, let alone to a very different society to the one we grew up in. {If you are not prepared for the joy/ shock that China is different to home, then perhaps you better do some reading.} Our class sizes are small, the majority of our classes are with younger learners (although we do have IELTS and specialist conversation classes for more advanced students), and all classes have texts and/or guidelines as to their tuition needs. Teachers also have a teaching assistant who is there to help with preparation, marking, photocopying, co-teaching, translations, and interviews. Teachers need not speak any Mandarin. As our teachers receive their own classes many get quite attached to their own students – unlike in many schools we do encourage home visits, meals out and interaction as really they become like friends. Living and working in a developing country is not a piece of cake, especially in smaller cities (population of Dandong is 2.3 million so a mere dot on the map of China), so we need people who will be able to cope when your phone-bill arrives in Chinese, or you have to grin and bear it when the 100th eager local yells a hello from across the street as you do a simple task like buy your vegies from the local market! Having said that its not all bad as otherwise so many of us wouldnt give it a go. If you feel you can adapt to living in a different culture whilst delivering fun English classes, and more importantly working as part of a close-knit team then you should apply to:
zestyenglishschool@yahoo.com.au
We ask that you send a copy of your CV (folders under 50k plllllllllease) and a cover letter introducing yourself and your wishes for working in a language school in China.

Good luck in the Year of the Rooster and good karma!
