Teach EAP in Wuxi, China
The Wuxi South Ocean College China/University of New England Australia pathway program is looking for English teachers for the Academic English Program to start in October, 2005. The program offers Chinese students a pathway to study a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of New England in Armidale, Australia.

The English course runs for 2 semesters, and feeds into our pathway degree program. In the first semester, the English Program concentrates on teaching students general English skills, as well as introducing academic English skills. In the second semester, the program concentrates on teaching EAP, to prepare students to study in the degree program the following year.

We are looking for native English speaking teachers who have had experience teaching academic English and/or IELTS to sign on for a 2 semester contract, running from October 2005 to July 2006. Teachers would be required to teach 18 hours a week from Monday to Friday. Our program allows teachers to do lesson preparation either in the office or at home.

While maligned in the Lonely Planet, Wuxi city is quickly developing into a modern city with all the modern conveniences one would expect. With a population of more than more than 4 million, Wuxi is situated in Jiangsu Province, 2 hours from Shanghai to the east and Nanjing to the west. Being on Tai Hu Lake, Wuxi is a major tourist destination for the Chinese people, and is a major centre in China’s booming economic growth.

Our program provides teachers with a supportive work environment, managed by Australian academics. The accommodation and wages offered are excellent by local standards and allow teachers a very good standard of living. Working for the WSOC/UNE pathway program, teachers can experience China with the security of western support structures. In addition, there is a 4-week paid holiday between semesters in January when teachers can travel and see more of China if they want.

Our students are first year college students whose English level ranges from pre-intermediate to intermediate. Our course aims to bring these students to an intermediate to upper-intermediate level. Class sizes are kept to a maximum of 25 students. In the past, there has been an average of 20 students per class.

Teachers should have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree
- A TESOL qualification – CELTA, DELTA, Graduate Certificate, or Graduate Diploma
- At least 1 year teaching experience, including experience teaching EAP or IELTS

Teachers will receive:
- 5000 to 6000 RMB per month (depending on qualifications and experience)
- 450 RMB per month food and travel allowance.
- Up to 600 RMB per month electricity and water allowance.
- 1 bedroom apartment with views of Tai Hu Lake
- A broadband Internet connection is supplied
- Satellite TV
- 4 weeks paid leave
- Return airfare from home country to Shanghai

To apply, please send your resume and a reference to the Head English Teacher, Heather Pate: teachatunec@yahoo.com.au or fax: 86 510 555 1196

Please email for any further information, or call the program director, Michael McAuley:
