School Introduction

Qingdao University, situated in the Chinese eastern city Qingdao, faces the Yellow Sea to its south and Mount Fushan as its background, creating a beautiful academic setting.
Qingdao University, authorized by the State Education Commission and the Shandong Provincial Government in 1993, is a comprehensive educational establishment incorporating the former Qingdao University, Shandong Textile Engineering Institute, Qingdao Medical College and Qingdao Teachers' College, and is now the largest university in Shandong Province with doctorate accreditation.
The university comprises nineteen colleges: the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Science and Technology, the College of Medicine, the College of Textiles and Fashion, the College of International Business, the College of Teacher Training, the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the College of Electronics and Automation, the College of Information Engineering, the College of Finance, the College of Arts, the College of Laws, the College of Tourism, the College of International Exchange, the College of Adult Education, the College of Technical and Vocational Training and the College of Holmes.?? Thirty-seven departments cover fifty-one undergraduate majors in the fields of liberal arts, history, law, economics, management, science, medicine, and education. The university has fourteen research laboratories and the doctorate accreditation in ophthalmology, physiology and master accreditation in forty majors.
The university has 3,350 staff members and more than 22,400 full-time students, including 650 graduate students. In addition, there are more than 490 foreign students and more than 7,000 students for continuing education. 680,000 square meters of university buildings are housed on the 1.4 million square meter campuses. The library with 1.7 million books and more than 4,700 periodicals is the largest in Shandong Province. The university employs 1,360 teachers, including one academician from the Chinese Academy, of Sciences, one academician from the Chinese Engineering Academy, 236 full professors, 670 associate professors and more than 100 Ph.D. Staff members include a number of internationally renowned scholars in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Automation, Computer Science, Textile Engineering, International Relations, Chinese Language and Literature, and History.
The university's 53 research institutes combine science research and education. 450 academic books and 4,000 papers have been published and 1,800 research projects are under way. The university leads the country in researches on Pre-Qin Dynasty literature, non-linear excitation computer control systems, super low temperature cornea freezing, nutrition and immunity and natural pigment extraction. The university has cooperation with many provincial and municipal enterprises and has established specialty research institutes with Haier, Hisense, Blue Goose and Double star.
International exchange programs have been established with 60 universities and twinning agreements have been signed with 30 universities in 50 countries and regions, including the USA, Britain, Germany, Japan, Russia, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Israel. It is one of the two universities with the major to enroll foreign students in Shandong and an HSK test center has been established in the university.
In the new century, Qingdao University will develop its school spirit and strive to bring the university into a highly developed, internationalized new type of comprehensive university with emphasis on its openness to the world.
