Teach near the Bamboo Sea

Yibin University, a small four-year University in southwest China's Sichuan province, seeks foreign applicants for teaching posts in the Computer Science, Biology, and Foreign Language Departments for the 2005-2006 school year. The one-year contract may be renewable, depending on performance. Starting date: September 1st, 2005.

Yibin is a mid-sized city located near the border of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in southwest China. Your experience living here will be quite different from living in eastern or southern China; although Yibin enjoys many Western products and conveniences, foreigners are still fairly rare here. Yibin marks the point where the Min and Jinsha rivers meet to form the Yangtze, giving the city its nickname "the first city on the Yangtze." Yibin also lies just 90 minutes from the scenic Bamboo Sea National Park, which gained international fame after part of the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was filmed there.

Job description:

- 16-20 teaching hours per week, depending on which subject you teach

- Monthly salary of 3000 yuan for teachers with a Bachelors Degree; 3500 yuan for Masters Degree holders; 4000 yuan for Ph.Ds. In addition, bonuses may be offered based on teaching performance.

- An apartment on campus will be provided free of rent, including a kitchen, bedroom, living room, bathroom, TV, phone, heater and air conditioner.

- The University will arrange special activities for the foreign teachers around major holidays.

Requirements:

- Minimum degree required is a B.A. or B.S.

- Previous teaching experience is a plus, but it is not required.

- Applicants should be in good health and must be willing to abide by Chinese law and Yibin University regulations while in China.

- For applicants wishing to teach foreign languages other than English, a two-year contract is strongly preferred.
