Living in Chinkuashi has been a very unique and special experience. It has it's pros and cons, like everywhere. We will start with the cons. It is a very small town which means very little english and very little foreign restaurants or foreign social network in the area. Living in Chinkuashi means living a simple life. Their is only a small selection of restaurants, convenience stores, and shopping. Also surviving without knowing any chinese is difficult but manageable. Being so secluded the bus system is very time consuming ,making a scooter a necessity. Last but not least it is rainier in the mountains than it is in other areas and cooler. All of this said with this negative things comes many positive things. It's incredible beautiful in the mountains. We have a view of both the ocean and the mountains. Many hiking trails to keep you exploring for many years. The ocean is only a 5 minute scooter ride away. Once you are their you feel like you are on vacation. Since it is so secluded without any foreign influence you really get a true Taiwanese experience. People are really friendly here and go out of their way to help you. If you are interested in learning Chinese you will have ample opportunity due to the fact that many people don't speak English. It is good to save money here because their aren't many places to spend it. You are only a 30 minute scooter ride from a beautiful beach or 1 hour train ride from Taipei. Anywhere you go on the east coast is beautiful so if you want to be surrounded by more beautiful scenery you don't have to go far.
