Yangzhou College of Education
Yangzhou College of Education was established in August, 1959. It is a full-time junior college, oriented in normal education to cultivate new teachers of the primary and middle schools, and to train on-the-job teachers of the primary and middle schools and educational administration management cadres. Under the approval of The People’s Government of Jiangsu Province, the former Yangzhou College of Education, Yangzhou Normal School and Gaoyou Normal School merged into one new Yangzhou College of Education with three districts in December, 2001, of which Meiling district and West Slender Lake district lie respectively on the west and east side of the beautiful national scenic garden area---Shugang-West Slender Lake scenery spot, and Gaoyou district lies in the urban of Gaoyou---the famous historical town.
Yangzhou College of Education has the high-qualified faculty with 522 teachers and office staffs, among which there are 5 professors, 105 teachers with senior professional title including associate professors, 187 teachers with junior professional title. The college consists of 11 departments: Chinese, Politics Education, History and Geography, English, Art, Mathematics, Physics, Biochemistry, Computer, PE, offering 22 majors and disciplines, such as comprehensive liberal arts, comprehensive natural science education, comprehensive art education, primary education and pre-school education and so on. We recruit the students all over Jiangsu province. Presently, it has over 5,000 full-time students and more than 6,000 registered adult students. Since the restoration of the college, the college has totally cultivated 32,116 students, 23,394 correspondence students, and 38,720 adult students of all levels, which greatly contributes to the development of local education and economy.
Yangzhou College of Education occupies an area of 340 acreages, and its buildings have a total floor space of nearly 110,000m2. It has the integrated teaching and living facilities, including three libraries, three lab buildings, one multi-functional music report hall, two multi-functional gyms, one standard synthetic plastic playground and other two playgrounds with 300-meter tracks, and one training hotel. Besides, the college is equipped with advanced electric instruments and network teaching facilities, has built its own network, and has 10 computer classrooms, 4 multi-medium classrooms, 5 sound labs and 8 micro classrooms. The college library has a collection of over 440,000 volumes and subscribes to over 1,000 journals and magazines.
In 1993, Yangzhou College of Education founded Yangzhou Management Software Junior Academy----a second-grade academy. It has five majors, including computer information management, computer application with over 330 full-time students in the campus.
