English Teachers Needed Grades 5-8 in Honduras
La Esperanza School seeks homeroom teachers who are native English speakers to teach the wonderful students in our bilingual school, grades 5th through 8th.

La Esperanza School is a private K-8 bilingual school located in La Esperanza, Honduras. There are approximately 80 students. Classes sizes are small and vary from 6 to 11 students. The school has a small computer lab and a library with English books. After several years in the same location, our new building will be ready by December, 2004. We welcome you to come grow with us.

You will find the eagerness to learn English expressed by our students a most refreshing change. You will not find the pressures of the U.S. and Canada in this relaxed environment. As a teacher at our school, you will receive professional support as well as orientation to the small town of La Esperanza. The English division of the school has an internationally experienced coordinator who will help you with curriculum as well as any other issues pertaining to students, parents or otherwise.

Housing and a monthly salary (around $300 US per month - more than enough to live on in Honduras) is provided. We request a commitment of one year (Now - June 2005). A teaching certificate is preferred but not required. Experience working with children is much more important. The school day is 7:30-3:30. English teachers are sometimes required to teach science, health, social studies, and other subjects in English in addition to language, reading, spelling, etc.

The city of La Esperanza is situated at 1700m about sea level, lending itself to one of the coolest climates in Honduras. Most of its population are Lenca Indians. La Esperanza keeps its old features (stones street, old style houses and customs) but at the same time it has all modern communication services internet, telephone, tv, radio station. The town has restaurants, churches, gas stations and banks. Organizations such as the Peace Corps, Friends of America and Save the Children have volunteers in and around the city. A paved road connects the town with all major cities in Honduras. The town is two hours and a half from the capital of Tegucigalpa.
