Job presentationThe Yemen-America Language Institute (YALI), established in 1975 by the U.S. Embassy in Yemen, is a high profile English language institute with average enrollments exceeding 2,800 students per term and peak enrollments of up to 3,500 students. With a multinational staff of approximately 30 employees and 70 teachers, YALI is operated by the Yemen College of Middle Eastern Studies (YCMES) through a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Embassy in Yemen.
Eight 5-week terms are conducted annually. Classes are held daily, Saturday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:50 p.m., and supplemental learning activities are conducted on Thursdays. Facilities are located in a garden-like setting and include four buildings with 40 classrooms, a self-access multi-media lab, and a 48-station computer lab.
Summary of Responsibilities
• Teaches English courses following established YALI guidelines and using acceptable communicative language teaching strategies and methodologies. Maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to optimal learning.
• Monitors, assesses, and evaluates student work and progress.
• Participates in teacher training workshops and other developmental activities designed to enhance the quality of teaching and participates in the delivery of such training.
• Prepares reports and lessons plans, supplemental materials and activities, quizzes as required. Maintains an up-to-date record of lesson plans, student attendance and grade records, according to YALI procedures.
• Contributes to the curriculum and test development activities, as directed.
• Assists in miscellaneous administrative duties related to the effective operation of a language institute.
• As a native speaker, serves as a resource to new and less experienced instructors in developing their teaching skills and as a resource on the English language and American culture to all instructors who are not native speakers or who are less familiar with American culture.
Compensation
• Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience; salary range from $18,000 to $30,000 per year

• Visa and all visa extensions in Yemen
• Use of YCMES services, such as airport pickup (upon first arrival and final departure), laundry, internet, etc.

Additional Qualifications:
Qualifications and desirable skills
• MA in EFL, TEFL, Education, Linguistics or English Literature – or BA with ESL certification
• EFL teaching experience
• Flexibility to work in a diverse and multicultural work environment
• Great organizational and multi-tasking skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and computer usage
• Only American and Canadian nationals will be considered for this position
