JOB ANNOUNCEMENT - ESL INSTRUCTOR

Position: Adjunct ESL Instructor (1 Opening)

Contract dates: February 7, 2005 - July 31, 2005 (Please Note: Preferred starting date: January 27, 2005. Days worked before January 27, 2005 would be paid by stipend.)

English Language Programs: The University offers ESL programs of various length and intensity, ranging from short (1-3 week) conversational English programs to longer (2-3 month) intensive English and University Preparation programs.

Responsibilities: The candidates hired will teach ESL courses at different levels and in various skills for adult, undergraduate, pre-college & pre-high school students from Japan. The adjunct faculty member filling this position must be present in school 8:50 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., 4 days a week (or a 5-day week with two 1/2 days off). Classes usually run from about 8:50am to 2:30 or 3:00pm. Other responsibilities include office hours, developing curriculum; promoting and realizing the university mission and program objectives (especially related to Peace Education); preparing for classes, proposing and planning educational field trips and activities, escorting students on field trips, mentoring of graduate students in the TESOL program, placement testing, committee work, administrative and faculty meetings and other related duties. Occasional weekend work may also be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications: MA in TESL/TESOL & native or native-like proficiency in English
Preferred Qualifications: approximately 3 years of full-time teaching experience in ESL/EFL; experience teaching overseas; expertise in the following area(s): Peace Education, English for Academic Purposes, Advanced Composition, Computer Assisted Language Learning; Mentoring Graduate TESL students; supplemental background in student counseling and/or student activities.

Salary & Benefits: from $19,465.67 to $22,246.77 (if contract starts on February 7, 2005) based on qualifications and experience; Insurance Plan for Medical, Dental & Eye Care

Vacation: approximately 4 of non-continuous weeks of vacation during the time of this contract.

Location: 40 minutes from the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX); near Malibu; beautiful natural surroundings
