At UKLC (formerly MJA Language) we are passionate about developing new teachers and so last year we applied for and received European government funding to take 15 newly qualified, UK resident teachers who were struggling to find their first job, train them up and give them relevant experience. The project was a resounding success with all the participants noting that it helped them in their search for work. Based on that success, we reapplied this year for double the funding and were again successful in securing the money. We now have 30 places to offer newly qualified teachers who want some extra training and that all important first teaching experience. As our area of business is Young Learners then much of the training involves specifics about teaching this age group, something that is often lacking in most TEFL qualifications. The placement in France is in Saint Raphael (South of France) at primary and secondary schools. The placement in Spain is in Elche (South East Spain) and takes place in a mixture of primary, secondary schools and an adult language school. If you qualified in EFL (CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL) in the last 18 months and have found it difficult to get onto the TEFL ladder then this might be just what you need. You need to be: • Qualified by a recognised body for the teaching of English (in the last 18 months) • Struggling to gain a permanent job in EFL due to lack of experience • Very enthusiastic about advancing your EFL career and developing as a teacher • Keen to expand your knowledge of teaching Young Learners and gain experience of this age group • Ready to commit to a four day residential course (10th to 14th April) in North Wales and a month’s unpaid experience in Spain or France during April and May Successful participants will get: • A full preparation programme involving 45 hours of input. This includes: • Specific training in teaching Young Learners • A first aid qualification • A Sports leaders award • Spanish/French language lessons You will also get the chance to gain your first paid employment with us at a UKLC summer language course during July and August. After the preparation we will be taking you to Spain or France for 4 weeks where you will be provided with: • Full board accommodation • All transport organised • Spanish / French language lessons • A work placement where you will teach in primary schools/ secondary schools, language schools and businesses in order to gain maximum experience • A fully qualified Course Director to observe, mentor and monitor your progress during the month At the end of the project the participants will have: • A month’s worth of real teaching experience to put on their CV • References from employers in Spain/France and our Course Director • A Europass mobility CV that records what they have achieved • A Day’s certificate in Sports Leadership • A certificate of training in Emergency first aid Please email us to get an application form and more information.
