===================================================

Hello All,

Here is in interesting post in ESL Jobs Forum that I think

"How long have you been away from home?"

------>> STOP! THESE TEACHERS NEED YOUR HELP! <<------
------------------------------------------------------

http://www.esl-jobs-forum.com

Your colleagues are looking for guidance and help from
fellow professionals. Take a minute and help them out!

--> WanderingTeacher writes...Is your degree important in
the Far East?

...How important is this in regard to obtaining jobs in the
far east? I have a BA (Hons) in Law, Psychology and
English... unfortunately it is a pretty frightening 3rd (not
a reflection of lack of capacity or sloth, but
circumstance). Will this inhibit my job opportunties
hugely?...

http://www.esl-jobs-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=1239

--> paulo2006 writes...The border in Mexico

...There was a confrontation recently at the northern border
where a young Mexican 'smuggler' was shot and killed by a
patrol agent. Question: It is rumored that there has been a
'revenge' killing - only a rumor I'm sure - but the whole
illegals/border fence issue is becoming quite a 'thorn'
relationwise, wouldn't you agree?...

http://www.esl-jobs-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=1249

--> akeed writes...I'm lost in the acronyms!

...Can somebody tell me the differences between the various
tests out there? Why are the Cambridge tests (First
Participate, CAE, Proficiency) generally considered better
than the ETS tests such as TOEIC, TESOL (Test of English to
Foreign Lerners), and IELFS (the one with the big speaking
element).

I'm TOEFL certified (four-week LIVE, not on-line, course)
and trying to teach my students which tests to take. Are any
of the tests more geared towards European, Arab, or Asia
markets?...

3. From the Field - The Problem with Private ESL Classes
===================================================

How are your private lessons going this semester? I hope
that they’re not anything like mine! Speaking of which, the
topic of this entry is private ESL classes. I have talked to
many ESL teachers about this topic, and it’s surprising to
see how quickly the conversation can become heated. It seems
that everyone has a strong opinion about whether or not a
teacher can make a decent living giving them.

In the places I've taught ESL, salaries aren’t necessarily
known to be top rate. After trying to live on the school’s
salary, I eventually decided to try and give some private
classes to supplement my income...

4. From the Field - Selecting teachers for young learners
===================================================

Teaching English to young learners - let’s say children aged
from 5 - 12 - is different in crucial ways from teaching
teenagers and adults. When selecting teachers we need
criteria that relate to children’s specific needs. Remember
that children are still developing, not just physically, but
also emotionally and cognitively. They need teachers who can
create a classroom environment that stimulates them to work
within and not beyond their ability range. By feeling
comfortable with what they are asked to do, they will both
acquire language and feel secure in their classroom and
this, in turn, can enhance their confidence.
