1. Should I bring my daughter?
===================================================
Hey Everyone,
This is a great question from a new forum member, Ericka.
***
I have a 3 year old daughter but I want to teach in latin
america is it wise to bring her with me?
http://www.esl-jobs-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=321
***
I'm sure many of you have experiences with this so plesae
take a minute and pass along your advice on this subject.
I'm sure it will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jacob Peebles

"The
debate about the efficacy of an English-only language
classroom vs. regular use of the students’ native
language
is likely to be ongoing. Perspectives vary, so feel free
to
not only choose as many of the following statements as you
wish, but to elaborate on this topic in the comments section
on our blog. Perhaps we can shed some light on the variety

...Hi everyone, im a 23 year old female, living in the UK.
I've been working as an interpreter for the NHS (National
health service) for over a year now, as i speak URDU
fluently as a second language, but i want to get on the
ladder for TEFL.
I'm in the early stages of research and to be honest have
lost myself already......i've got my head around what the
different titles mean but what i want to know is what would
be the best and most recognised road to take to get me
started in TEFL as a career...

3. From the Field - The Spring Doldrums: Staying on Track
===================================================
In the words of a friend...
"Usually,
around the beginning of March I start to think
about how many weeks are left until the end of the semester
and panic! Will my students learn everything I planned for
them to learn? Are they getting bored? Good gosh, those
spring months with virtually no holidays can be deadly!
Let's all relax...deep breaths...1, 2, 3. Ok, here's a few
things I've done in the past to get re-energized:
1) Go to a conference or workshop - Attending a conference
always inspires me to try new things, challenging me to put
into practice whatever is being discussed or presented.
Plus, the ability to complain about overcrowded classes and
that student who sits in the back row who is always late,
offers opportunities to get things off your chest, meet new
people, and share ideas.

4. From the Field - Commonly Confused Words
===================================================
I thought I would kick off with a language item. I recently
heard a UK politician say that he was not "adverse" to
certain measures under discussion. It struck me that English
is littered . . .
. . .
with pairs of easily confused words. He meant "averse"
of course. It reminded me of a football manager who talked
about the "heart-rendering" result his team had
produced. An
aerospace executive I once taught had much pleasure in
collecting examples of such faux pas from native speakers
to
prove that it is not only non-native speakers who make
mistakes. Well, of course not.
Personally
I don’t
think learners should get too anxious
about their mistakes. The main thing is to be understood.
Perfection can come later. But we do need to help learners
navigate through the choppier seas of English usage. When
you look into the topic there are really a very large number
of commonly confused words. Here are a few just from the
first letter of the alaphabet:
