1. "This is a Powerful Tool..."
===================================================

Hey Everyone,

This is huge for anyone looking for a job RIGHT NOW. If
you're like me I'm sure you would prefer to save yourself
hours of surfing the net for your next job. That's why you
need to take a look at this.

http://www.eslemployment.com/cmd.php?ad=214714

Here is what another ESL teacher has to say..it sums it up
well:

"After many years of teaching and job searching, I know how
important it is to be proactive in the job search. This is a
powerful tool because it contains the physical address, as
well as an email address with a contact person for many
schools. This information is so vital because I know that my
resume will definitely get into the right hands."

- Jennifer Barclay - Australia

------>> STOP! THESE ESL TEACHERS NEED YOUR HELP! <<------
------------------------------------------------------

http://www.esl-jobs-forum.com

Your ESL colleagues are looking for guidance and help from
fellow professionals. Take a minute and help them out!

--> twclaessen questions...I'm of European heritage but have
citizenship in Sri Lanka. How do I get ESL employers to
consider me?

... There seems to be so much out there with hundreds, if
not thousands of job opportunities. However, I do find some
of them very restrictive in that they specify preferred
nationalities to be employed which obviously leaves out
anyone else. My mother tongue is English, but I do not hold
UK, US, Australian, NZ or Canadian citizenship...

Read the rest here...

--> rakozy warns...Think you can really get a decent job
with an ONLINE TEFL cert.?

...While you may be able to receive quality learning
experiences related to ESL on-line, it's the actual in-class
teaching experiences which ESL school offer which give you
confidence. There is nothing like the "real thing" when it
comes to working with groups. Individual qualifications
play a large part in how attractive you may be to an
perspective employer. If you come to the table with a degree
in English or have previous teaching experience, then...

Find out more here...

--> kuplungmaster advises...Newly certified but no ESL
experience? Maybe Eastern Europe is the place for you to
start!

...right, Eastern Europe is the paradise for "paper holders"
without experience and for semi-literate native speakers!
However, I'd rather employ someone with an ordinary TESOL
Certificate but plenty of experience...a degree does not
guarantee 'the' quality, at least from my experiences...

Discussion continued here...

3. From the Field - From the ESL Couch - Projection
===================================================

And no, I don’t mean film projection - But rather
psychological projection. Peter Gay writes that projection
is "the operation of expelling feelings or wishes the
individual finds wholly unacceptable - too shameful, too
obscene, too dangerous - by attributing them to another."
(Freud: A Life for Our Time, page 281)

How does this apply to teachers? Picture this - You are
living and teaching in Italy. You study and study and study
for your Italian language certification test and fail. This
leaves you feeling disappointed, sad, and a little angry at
yourself for not studying harder. Monday, at school, when a
student fails your English vocabulary test, you assume that
he must feel disappointed, sad, and a little angry at
himself for not studying harder...and you don’t see the
connection between the two events - and you don’t see that
the student is actually not concerned in the least.

===================================================
4. From the Field - The need for academic writing
===================================================

I am sure there is a real need for EAP courses. The last
time I taught English for Academic Purposes in a British
university, what struck me about the problems students faced
in writing was not so much their deficiencies in language
structure (although they were serious enough) as their
almost total lack of awareness about what an academic paper
is.

Academic writing must be firmly grounded in demonstrable
fact; sources must therefore be cited to prove the
authenticity of the facts and to avoid any suggestion of
plagiarism. Students need to learn how to cite these
references using one of the accepted style manuals . . .
