1. Cool Web Tool
===================================================

Ever wonder which Web site is worth visiting? Which
employer site really has traffic? Download the Alexa
toolbar (Alexa is an Amazon company) and find out:

http://download.alexa.com/index.cgi?amzn_id=esltextsbooks

...Alexa works with Internet Explorer to add the Alexa
toolbar immediately below your Web address (URL) line. It
gives you a ranking of the site you are viewing against all
other Web sites, as well as links to related sites.

The toolbar is loaded with useful information about every
site on the web, like customer reviews, traffic rankings and
web site contact information. Plus. We believe this is the
most useful toolbar available today.

The Alexa Toolbar is a free search and navigation companion
that accompanies you as you surf, providing useful
information about the sites you visit without interrupting
your Web browsing.

- Search the Web and other resources directly from your
toolbar.
- Learn about Web sites including traffic information and
contact info.
- Surf more efficiently with Related Links for each page.
- Share opinions about sites with other users.

An impressive feature of the toolbar is the Wayback Machine
that can transport you back in time to show you how your
favorite sites looked in the past. Click the Wayback
button, select a date, and go!

We use the tool here at the ESL employment office to quickly
sort through which sites are real (and which are not) in our
Web surfing. Give it a try!

2. From the Field - What Do You Do About Missed Classes?
===================================================

Has this ever happened to you? You spent an hour preparing
for a private class, then rush to get to it on time. You set
up your props or whatever you will be using, then sit back
and wait for your students to arrive. Ten minutes later,
you're still waiting, but you have faith. After all, they've
been late before. Twenty minutes later, you begin to get
that "feeling," but decide to stick it out. Forty minutes
later, which is exactly twenty minutes before the class is
scheduled to end, you begin to pack up to go home.

3. From the Field - Globish
===================================================

It was inevitable. This was a "language" waiting to happen.
A former IBM marketing manager, Jean Paul Nerrière, has
codified a simplified form of English for international use.
Why inevitable? Well, I suppose I'm just kicking myself for
not having devised this one myself. For years I've listened
to business people expressing their impatience with learning
English in all its intricate glory. They need something
quick and effective. They probably won't be talking to
native speakers anyway, but to other nationalities all of
whom have the same problems with the "Queen's English" as
they have.

--> andrew writes...TEFL Course in Europe (Poland)

I want to teach English in Poland. I have an i-to-i
qualification but am not sure if it is actually valid in
Poland. I also have other experiences that would benefit
tefl teaching. I am wondering if anyone could let me know
about studying tefl in Poland...

--> Gerard Denaro writes...Western Culture needs a reality
check...

Back in Australia after two soul-searching experiences
teaching in China in 2003 and 2004, I find myself being
increasingly drawn back to the land of mystery and paradox.
Having returned to teaching after a decade or so of doing
other things, I cant help but think how different Australia
and China are in...

--> johnduffy writes...Where do i start...

I am sure this question has been asked a million times but i
am a new comer. What exactly do i need to do to be certified
to teach. Do I need to have a college degree first? I have
some college but plan to go back in the fall full time. Do i
need a degree in education or English before i can go teach
in another country. or what do i need to do to get into this
program...
