1. From the Field - Do Your Students Use Prediction For
Comprehension?
===================================================

We all know that being able to predict what comes next in a
story is a major part of listening and comprehension when
learning a foreign language. And unfortunately, this is what
many ESL students seem to have the greatest trouble with. I
use this great method to get my entire class involved in the
process. But be aware! Even your shyest students will pipe
in with this one!

2. From the Field - Forewarned is forearmed
===================================================

Well, I certainly got a lot of response to my blog about the
hapless John and the devious Olga. It clearly struck a chord
with teachers in the field. But that's not surprising. The
teacher can represent a coveted trophy or a sympathetic ally
to an impressionable young student. If the society is not
tolerant of such relationships, the student may be further
stimulated by the idea of "forbidden fruit". But two things
seem to me to be important messages from this story and some
of the experiences people have recorded in their comments.

rugged terrain I have hit has been here in Ireland, Scotland
or maybe New York. So all bits of advice, tips, good places
to visit, good things to bring, what to watch out for, good
food, bad manner that I might offend with, or be offended

I am a 25 year old English teacher from Turkey. I have been
teaching English for one year. I graduated from the English
Language Teaching Department of Marmara University in
Istanbul. I have CELTA and I have been working for English
First( previously International House) for one year. I would
like to work abroad.Which countries can I work in? And which
countries are the least likely to hire me?

I will be attending a TESL course in Sydney Australia this
weekend. The course is run by i-to-i and is accredited
through ODLQC. I was after any information regarding this
qualification and if it is valid for working as a tefl
teacher in Europe. I would like to work in Poland and would
like to do this course to update my skills. I already have a
diploma in community services (welfare), a cert in literacy
and numeracy tutoring...
