1. From the Field - What is the content of your lessons?
===================================================

I am interested in knowing what guidance schools give their
teachers about the content of their lessons. As English
language teaching gains ground globally, I think students
know why they want to learn the language (it gives them a
distinct advantage in educational and employment fields) and
teachers know why they want to teach it (opportunity to
travel, see the world, meet many different people, the
reward of being effective in the classroom, etc.) But do
students and teachers know what content they want lessons to
have?

===================================================
2. From the Field - Do You Need A Degree?
===================================================

While I always recommend having a teaching certificate when
looking for a position, having a degree may or may not be
important. It truly just depends on where you want to work.
For example, if your goal is to teach in a University, then
yes, it's likely that you'll need one. On the other hand, if
you want to teach in a private school, it simply depends on
that school's requirements AND (perhaps more importantly)
their current needs and options.

--> soody writes...Teaching English in the French Alps

Hi. I am planning on spending the winter months in Chamonix
in the French Alps and am keen to continue teaching English.
I have a CELTA plus 2 years teaching experience in the UK
and Italy. Does anyone know of any schools in or around the
region that require English language teachers? Or if there's
much call for private tuition or tuition within businesses?

--> lawry writes...Questions about obtaining a teaching
position

My wife and I are Australians (sorry about that) and our
youngest child will soon leave home. When she does we would
like to teach in Central/South America. Probably Costa Rica.
However, we hope someone can answer a few questions for us
as we are very new to ESL. We are both professionals and
intend to obtain TESOL qualifications.

--> davidwest writes...Bahia or Buenos Aires?

I am heading, blindly, to South America shortly as a novice
TEFL teacher. I would love to sample the culture of Salvador
and the Bahia region but am very unsure if there will be
paying work out there. I have trawled this and other sites
with little success other than ME paying approximately
$2,000 to volunteer for the privilege of working for next to
nothing. This does not compute to me...
