1. Cool Web Tool
===================================================

Ever wonder which Web site is worth visiting? Which
employer site really has traffic? Download the Alexa
toolbar (Alexa is an Amazon company) and find out:

http://download.alexa.com/index.cgi?amzn_id=esltextsbooks

...Alexa works with Internet Explorer to add the Alexa
toolbar immediately below your Web address (URL) line. It
gives you a ranking of the site you are viewing against all
other Web sites, as well as links to related sites.

The toolbar is loaded with useful information about every
site on the web, like customer reviews, traffic rankings and
web site contact information. Plus. We believe this is the
most useful toolbar available today.

The Alexa Toolbar is a free search and navigation companion
that accompanies you as you surf, providing useful
information about the sites you visit without interrupting
your Web browsing.

- Search the Web and other resources directly from your
toolbar.
- Learn about Web sites including traffic information and
contact info.
- Surf more efficiently with Related Links for each page.
- Share opinions about sites with other users.

An impressive feature of the toolbar is the Wayback Machine
that can transport you back in time to show you how your
favourite sites looked in the past. Click the Wayback
button, select a date, and go!

We use the tool here at the ESL employment office to quickly
sort through which sites are real (and which are not) in our
Web surfing. Give it a try!

2. From the Field - Can Your Students Teach?
===================================================

I've heard from a few of you telling me that you appreciate
my teaching ideas that help get shy students talking. Well,
I have one tactic that I use a lot, but be warned--it won't
work for everyone! (You know your classes and your students,
so you'll have to determine if it will work for you.)

Read more here...

===================================================
3. From the Field - How long is a working week?
===================================================

As so often this comes back to cultural norms. Many teachers
come from a background in which it is normal for the working
week to run from Monday to Friday leaving Saturday and
Sunday free. It can thus be difficult to adjust to working,
say, six days before a day off arrives. Also if the two-day
weekend is not on offer, the teachers' chunk of free time is
diluted and they find they can't, for example, take an
extended trip...

--> mikara.travel writes...Women teachers wanted in Asia?

I'm new to the field, just got my cert. and am now teaching
in Asia. Maybe I'm naive, but what is with the high number
of Asia job givers asking for only women native speakers? I
don't see that in Europe or Latin America, and are those
parts of the world any more advanced than Asia?

http://www.esl-jobs-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=286

--> Andrew writes...POLAND PLS ANSWER

Do you require a degree from a university to work in Poland.
I have been told both yes and no. I do not have uni degree
but have a cert in literacy and numeracy, a diploma in
community services welfare, youth work experience, summer
camp experience and I have taught people individually to
read and write. I am also learning the Polish language. Can
someone please answer me asap.

--> ian mutimer...Anyone have any info on teaching English
in Sri Lanka?

I am planning to go and work in Sri Lanka from july, does
anyone have any idea of the requirements needed,
academically speaking, to work there?
