Hello All,
For those
of you still struggling with the latest "next
big
thing" on the Internet...RSS Feeds - I have some help.
Lee
Hobbs has been kind enough to write up a little article over
at http://www.esl-lesson-plan.com which will hopefully clear
things up.
You can read more by visiting this link.
I hope you find this article useful.

writes...Who's immoral after all?
...I don't think it is necessary to go abroad to discover
that radically different processes of socialization yield
radically different social perspectives. What is surprising
though is the way in which teachers sometimes react to what
they see as controversial or immoral values. As both
teachers and human beings, we have to be very careful when
engaging in conversation with individuals from different
backgrounds to our own that we do not automatically assume
that our process of socialization and the values it has
instilled within us is necessarily the supreme way of
interpreting and perhaps even categorizing the world...

...I am a highly experienced ESL pro and am having problems
finding work due to age discrimination. What is the
situation like in the ROK? Is there an unofficial age
ceiling for teachers? Thanks for any input...

3. From the Field - When ESL Students Evaluate their ESL
Instructor
===================================================
It's that time of the semester again: the end! Student
evaluations of the teacher! You know, have a fellow teacher
come into the room for 15 minutes, hand out #2 pencils and
multiple choice grade sheets while you go do the same for
another "strange" class. It seems so mundane yet
so much
might be hanging in the balance with the pencil scratches
of
those students.
Are you like me, wondering what your students are going
to
say about you now that you are out of the room? Do you
expect the ones who expect to get "As" to give
you high
marks while the ones who know their grade is in danger to
score you, in retaliation, with a negative evaluation score?

4. From the Field - Career structure in a school
===================================================
Hello. As newly qualified teachers travel around the globe
to take up teaching positions, there's an air of excitement
for them, the schools and the students. It's a familiar
pattern, isn't it? You recruit dynamic young teachers, then
you watch their enthusiasm and energy motivate the students,
and the result is a positive learning experience. But that's
the honeymoon period. As the teachers sense that work is
becoming routine, that the opportunities to progress in
their career are few, they lose their spark and you know
that it won't be long before they are off to seek pastures
new. This is a shame because staff continuity in the school
helps maintain standards, create corporate identity and
foster team spirit. So what would persuade teachers to stay
on and retain their enthusiasm?
